So let´s jump over to the East Coast where I spent most of my time in America yet. I lived near Washington D.C for about a year and I think the city makes a great place for a weekend getaway as it has a lot to offer. Maybe even for a Valentine´s trip?

One of my favorite, maybe even my favorite place in the District of Columbia is Georgetown. I love walking down the roads, looking around the cute shops and afterwards sit down at the river and relax. It is just such a lovely place. I think it gives you the feeling of a little student town including the cool cafes and restaurants. If you walk down the streets you can admire the old cobblestone houses whilst enjoying a good coffee and you can probably spent up to an entire day here, depending on your interests.

Another thing that is great about Washington D.C. are all the free activities. There are loads of different and interesting museums that you can visit for free. (This also means you will always have something to do on a rain day;)) Nevertheless D.C. is also a very walkable city. Besides oficial government buildings like the White House and the U.S Capitol, a lot of monuments are located in the city center. A walk around the monuments (and down the National Mall) is definitely a "must-do" when visiting and it is a good opportunity to learn about history as well.

I always went to D.C. for one-day or two-day trips. Generally I think a weekend is great for the city as there are various activities, but it is not a big city like NYC. If you stay longer discover the area around it. Virginia, Maryland and also West Virginia have a beautiful nature which is well worth a visit. There are various hiking opportunities and you could even walk a part of the nearby Appalachian trail. Personally, I really enjoy spending time in nature after a city break, so perfect combination. Do you agree? Have you been to Washington yet?
Lately I´ve been thinking, I´ve been thinking… a lot about California sunshine and travelling. I have been to California exactly one time before and it was one of the most amazing trips. So today´s post is dedicated to my trip to Cali and also a bit to future trips, because I want to share with you the things we did and things I wish we would have done/ I want to do next time. Hopefully this will give you some inspiration for your own trip.

Our trip started in Los Angeles and we spent most of the week around there which was awesome, but if you want to travel more around, I ´d suggest flying to San Francisco instead. From there on you can drive down to San Diego. Now, I have never rented a car in the US before as I am pretty sure you have to be at least 21 or sometimes even 25 years old, be certain to check that out before coming.

What I love about California is the fact that you not only have beautiful beaches, but also amazing National Parks which to be honest I (sadly) haven´t visited yet. They are on my list for the next visit for sure.;) I love spending time in nature. Therefore a good option after San Francisco would be to drive inland and visit three mature parks. Yosemite National Park is the one on top at my list, probably because I have seen more photos of it then other National Parks. Besides Yosemite there are a few other National Parks in that area. However I believe sometimes less is more when it comes to travelling for a longer period of time. Don´t squeez in to many parks and sights, because it can make it harder to appreciate every single one. ( That´s how I sometimes felt when travelling thru Australia, everything is so gorgeous you need some time to really take it in) My top NP picks in California are Yosemite, Seqouia und Death Valley National Park.

Afterwards drive towards Los Angeles and towards the beach, yeah! We spent one whole day at Venice Beach and Santa Monica and I highly recommend it. We also walked thru Venice " Canals" or more like waterstreets with very interesting and beautiful houses. There is a lot to do at the seafront, the Santa Monica Pier is a must and can be a nice place to watch the sunset. We watched it whilst we were on the ferris wheel at the Pacific park which is located on the pier. I would recommend staying in a place near the Sea. LA itself is a pretty average city I think, but Hollywood, Beverly Hills and Co. are right around the Corner. For me the Walk of Fame and walking/ driving down Rodeo Drive was another highlight of the trip and it was fun to see famous (movie) sights like the Beverly Hills Hotel. If you´re a person who finds joy in visiting "movie sets" in real life, here is your place. There are also various film studios that you can visit, for example the universal studios. We took a tour thru their sets and visited the actual Wisteria Lane from Desperate Housewives. Moreover the original Disneyland is located in the LA area, but if you are a bit older and not a absolute giant Disney fan you might want to leave that out and perhaps spent more time at the beach instead.;) I think there is nothing quiet like just sitting at the seafront and watching the surfers catching the waves, anyone agrees with me?

From LA drive down Highway 101 towards San Diego and I would just stop at all the beaches that look beautiful, haha. Well maybe do some planning and pick your top 3. One Beach/Town I really want to visit is Huntington Beach. Probably because Hollister made it look so appealing to me and it really does look like a great surfing spot which is a sport I really want to improve in.
I hope you enjoy this "first" post (back) and will continue to follow me on my blogging journey.

Selfcare & Selflove

Honestly you probably read about a thousand articles about selfcare, but this one is gonna be a bit different. A while ago when I felt really low & anxious I created a list of 10-15 things I wanted to do to take care of myself and you know what? I never really followed this list. Maybe selfcare & selflove starts with not having a list. What do you think? Don´t get me wrong, I love to Do-lists & Co., but let´s think about it. We already have so many meetings, appointments or examens listed in our calender that it´s probably a good idea to not put more pressure on us by listing things for our down time.

So what is selfcare all about? It totally depends on you. It can be whatever you want it to be, whatever helps you unwind, recharge and feel more relaxed. You don´t necessarily need fancy candles, aroma oils or a bath caddy, you just need you. (Quick reminder: You are awesome just the way you are). Therefore I don´t want to write down "the 10 best selfcare tips", but remind you that you need to do your individual selfcare whether it´s going for a run, cuddling dogs, sleeping the whole day, partying with friends, cooking or baking, watching Netflix...just do it and set yourself free from any selfcare expectations. That is also the part where selfcare and selflove go hand in hand. I think we often, maybe even subconsciously, adapt habits or do something influenced by other people´s moral & thinking and forget about what we really desire. Selfcare is to do what your heart desires and love yourself as you are.
With that said take care of yourself and have an awesome weekend.

Until next week,
I can miss a good friend dearly if she or he lives far away, can´t I?

Now a days, loads or maybe even most of my friends don´t live near me ( don´t worry, I also got some friends where I live, hahaha) and sometimes I just miss them. Sometimes I just want that particular friend here, but she lives hours away and I am not gonna meet her for another few weeks or months. It is a bit like being homesick. It sucks sometimes. We all study for different degrees at different universities. Nevertheless I believe in long-distance friendships and thinking your friendship is gonna break because of distance, to me, it is just stupid. Why should it? I remember a friend writing in my travel diary a quote from Winnie the pooh " Never apart, maybe in distance but Never by heart " and I think that is true for good friends, for boy- or girlfriends for family..
If you are making good friends while travelling, don´t be sad to leave them, instead make an effort to keep in touch and maybe plan future travels together. If you read my other posts, you know by now that I have very good friends who I met e.g. in Australia which was like almost 2 years ago. Since then we have been on various adventures together and our friendship is still going strong, but we live hours apart. If you go along time without seeing each other, just pick up the phone and give ´em a call or send around little postcards. I once send around little hearts to tell my friends how important they are for me even if they are miles away.;)
In this modern-age distance shouldn´t be an issue and on the bright side, you will always have an open door somewhere else in the world.
<span style="font-family: "calibri";">I decided
to write this post because I realized a lot of people feel a bit lost or
overwhelmed around that age like me, but that is okay. You will find your way.
It is okay to take time to figure out what you actually want to do in life.

<span style="font-family: "calibri";">Most of us
have been in school for the majority of our (pre-adult) life. Although sometimes
(or maybe loads of times) we didn´t like school to much, it gave our day a
structure. Besides that school takes quiet some time out of the day, it is a huge
part of our life, for years and years, and all of a sudden it is over and you
need to know what to do next. But how are you suppose to know? It can be hard,
right? Especially when it seems everyone
else except you knows what to study, where to move, what job to look forward to..
If you are struggling with that, I totally understand. I get it. But I also
know, you are not the only one feeling this way. Yes, there are people who know
exactly what the want to study and what job field they want to work in since
they are ten years old, but that´s most likely the minority.

<span style="font-family: "calibri";">When I got
out of school, I had a plan and I knew that I want to go to university and what
I want to study… or at least I thought I knew. First of all, I went to
Australia for a few months (check out my travel posts for that). It was an
amazing time. You don´t have any commitments, no school anymore, you are
basically free! I can only recommend to
everyone, take a gap year or maybe even two, even if you seem to have found
your dream job already. You gain valuable life experience, Travel can teach you a lot. It can help you to get to know yourself better and therefore
figure out what is good for you, what you want in life. If you are not a big
traveler or you just don´t want to be far away from home, there are other
opportunities to take a gap year. You could do internships, volunteer or just
get a student job to earn some money. You could even use the time to just go to
your “local” university and listen to some courses. ( I am not sure if you can
do this in every country for free, but it is worth checking.)

<span style="font-family: "calibri";">When I got
back from Australia I applied for the universities I had chosen, but to be
honest I wasn´t really sure anymore. In the end I didn´t get into the courses I
wanted and I saw it as a sign and took another gap year, well actually half a
gap year trying to figure out what to do. I went to London for two months which
didn´t turn out to be right for me. I went back home and mainly worked and then I found a new
BA-program which seemed to combine all the subjects I am interested in.

<span style="font-family: "calibri";">So it took
me almost 2 years to figure out what I am really interested in and what I want
to do and I am not the only one around my friends who needed that time to find
the right fit. It is totally normal and okay to take this time. Don´t let the
society or anyone led you into thinking you have to make a decision the day you
graduate, because you don´t. You decide when you make this decision and you
know why? It is your life and no one else´s, remember that.
Taking the greyhound up the east coast was great and fun, but for the last bit we had planned something different. A friend of ours from back home, had decided to spend some time in Australia as well, so we all met up in Brisbane. Like a lot of backpackers, he had bought a car...so no more coach rides from here on;)

Our plan was to camp somewhere else every night with three longer stops in between where we would stay in hostels. Now, us girls had never been camping before (a shame I know), we didn´t know how to set up a tent and what it would be like to pack it up again almost every morning. What more can I say, let the adventure begin. I am going to share with you all the places we visited that you shouldn´t miss on your own roadtrip and of course how hard it was to set up a tent, hahaha.

We started the drive up north without knowing where we would spent the day or the night. The first day was pretty unspectacular and mainly spent with food shopping and driving. Unfortunately we arrived at the camping ground in the dark and together with a rain storm. We quickly decided it was not the right time to figure out how to set up a tent and we all slept in the car.

For the following days we had booked a Fraser Island tour. Fraser Island is a must do, in my opinion! We had so much fun and met loads of cool people. Our tour guide was very funny and showed us all the major "hotspots". We swam in Lake Mckenzie, Eli Creek and jumped into the champagne pools. We stayed for two whole days, but if you have more time, I ´d say stay for the third day.

When we left the island on the evening of day two we drove to a camping ground in the dark, again. This time it wasn´t raining and we decided to set up our girl´s tent...it wasn´t that hard! The more scary thing were the weird animal sounds around the toilet and because it was night time you couldn´t actually see if their was an animal, maybe right in front of you.
However we got a decent amount of sleep and after a few more nights and a surfing stop in Agnes Water, we passed the Capricorn Coast. I´ve never heard of it before, but it seemed to be a nice place rather unkown in the backpacker scene. This time we opted for a real camping ground (not just a parking area next to some highway). It was super nice and we were beyond happy to have showers cleaner than the once in some hostels. The Highlight however was our day trip to Great Keppel Island. Again I didn´t even know anything about this island before we came. We had only been told about all the popular once like Magnetic Island and the Whitsunday´s. It was really nice to not be surrounded by loads of other european travellers for once. Great Keppel Island is just like a paradise island. The water had this amazing color and we almost had the beach for ourselves. I believe there was one resort (not sure if only one) on the island for those who wanted to stay other night and to be able to get some food.

We left at the same day and made our way up north to Airlie Beach. Excited to stay in a hostel again for the next three nights, we mainly spent the day walking around the streets of the little town or relaxing by the pool. I really really enjoyed Airlie Beach, it is a cute town, but most people like us come here to visit the Whitsunday´s. The Whitsunday Islands were one of my personal Australia highlights. We went on two day tours. The first was on a rather big ship to the Outer Great Barrier Reef where we went snorkeling and all that stuff and the second one was on a catamaran. We visited Whitehaven Beach, went snorkeling again and just enjoyed laying in the sun on the catamaran with all the beautiful islands around us. I think I was the happiest person on earth (in that moment).
Our last major stop on this roadtrip was Cairns, where we stayed three more nights before we flew to Asia. If you want to know more about what we did in Cairns, I am happy to write more about it in another post, but for now enjoy your weekend! Have you been to the Whitsunday´s yet? Or are you planning a roadtrip at the moment? I would love to know in the comments below.
I was so excited to visit as I had always seen pictures taken under the entry to the beach where it says "Surfers Paradise" and it looked so cool.
We arrived at our hostel in time for dinner. After surfing and the bus ride (which took an hour longer then we thought, because Queensland is in a different time zone apparently, haha) from Byron Bay we were super tired and worn out from the sun. Luckily there was a pub right behind the hostel and they even had meal deals for hostel guests I believe. We quickly checked in, before going for yummy dinner and hopeing straight into bed afterwards. Seriously, we were so done.

The next morning we took the shuttle into town. It instantly reminded me a bit of Miami with all the skyscrapers which I love, but some People don't like laying on the beach with them in the background...

...well first things first, we needed to get something for breakfast. Since we were kind of travelling on a budget as Backpackers, we opted for the local grocery store instead of brunching in a Café. After loading up on energy, we walked around the main streets of Surfer's and found some of our fave shops in Australia like Cotton On. There weren't souvenir shops as cute as the once we had found in Byron Bay, but I didn't mind. I loved that they had a Hard Rock Café and that it all reminded me of Florida.
The rest of the day was spent at the beach and carrying our stuff from one hostel to another one where we stayed for three more nights. We liked both hostels, but the second had the advantage of two pools and was located right in the center vs the other one was at the yacht harbour more outside. (The first one was the YHA and the second one was BUNK.)
Together with the three hostel nights we had booked a variety of activities. One day was spent at a Wildlife Sanctuary to look at australias wild animals from a safe place, hahaha. You could also take a picture with a Koala which we didn´t do. I don´t think those sleepy paws really enjoy playing model.

Another activity included was a half day trip to Springbrook National Park. It was nice and we stopped at some great lookouts, but I have to say it was nothing to special. Maybe that also had something to do with us being a little hungover/tired from the night before.

My favourite day was the last day. We had surf lessons in the morning and again it was so much fun. It also went way better then the time before in Byron Bay. After surfing we went to the Sea World Resort to go jetskiing. Neither of us had been on a real jetski before, but I think it is safe to say that we both had an absolute blast. We only booked about half an hour, but they also offer longer tours. It is quiet expensive, so we decided to just take advantage of the pool. In order to get to the jetski area you have to enter the pool area of the hotel and can use it after your or before your jetski tour. Super awesome! Oh how I miss those sunny days...sadly that evening we had to leave Surfers Paradise again and jump on the greyhound for the last time.

Surfers was definitely one of my favourite stops along the east coast and I have to say I liked it even more then Byron Bay. Either way you should visit both places if you plan on travelling up the coast. Just because of the size of the Gold Coast (Surfers Paradise) there are probably some more activities for different interests. You can check out the Hostels we stayed in or opt for a fancy hotel as I have seen plenty of them in Surfers.;)
Have you ever been to Australia? What did you like the most, I would love to know in the comments. Have a lovely weekend, everyone!Chiara http://www.blogger.com/profile/06839936109157245769noreply@blogger.com12tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-358959629670979197.post-5398827183200465372018-04-18T15:38:00.000+02:002018-04-18T15:38:27.814+02:00Hippy town on Australia´s east coast, Byron Bay !After an incredible time in Sydney, my favorite city on earth, the time came to say, see you later and
there we went leaving our beloved "home" in Australia behind.
In case you are wondering, no we didn´t fly home, not yet. Leaving Sydney behind was sad, but because we knew we have an amazing trip planned up the East Coast, it wasn´t to sad. My friend and I went on our first ever Greyhound journey and I have to say it was quiet comfortable except for some miner, well..let´s talk about that later.
The first drive was from Sydney to Byron Bay overnight. We were super tired when we arrived, but luckily our hostel had a pick-up service who got all the people from the Coach station, showed them around in town and dropped them at the hostel. Our hostel was Backpackers Holiday Village and it was super fun to stay there. We had a little apartment with two other girls. The hostel has various different types of accommodation and as backpacker or student I would highly recommend to stay in a hostel, it makes it way easier to get to know new people.
Byron Bay is a very small hippy like town. It is super relaxed and laid-back, totally different to Sydney. I found it quiet cute and there is always something going on. Maybe it is not the best place for a family vacation, but it is a great place for backpackers and students and I have to say there are lots of them.
We stayed here for about 4 days. A good amount of our time was spent at the beach or in surf and souvenir shops. Along the main roads are various different shops where you can buy beach stuff or souvenirs, often jewelry related. Although it is very easy to find a nice café to chill or a bar for a refreshing cocktail. Only be aware of all the "travel shop people" trying to sell you tours. We actually booked one tour. One afternoon we went on this amazing kayaking tour to see dolphins. It was stunning! I believe the tour was about 1.5 hours long and we got to see so many dolphins, some came up really close to the kayaks. Afterwards we just run into the ocean and enjoyed life. It was almost like one of those perfect days.

Then on our last day we woke up super super early to see the sunrise from the most easterly point of the Australian mainland. I think you can´t leave Byron Bay without seeing the sunrise above the sea. The Lighthouse is a famous spot to watch the sun rise over the ocean. Unfortunately on the East Coast you can only see the sunrise above the sea, well it makes sense, but you have to get up early for it. Trust me, it is worth it. ;)

Another thing you shouldn´t miss out on in Byron is surfing. Now, I am a beginner in surfing, but it seems like it is a great spot for the watersport. Before we had to catch the greyhound to get to our next destination, we took two surfboards and just went for it. It was so much fun. We both absolutely loved it.( You don´t have to be a pro to enjoy surfing :)) I had two or three lessons in Sydney and fell in love with it.

If you have more time in Byron Bay you could fit in a day trip to Nimbin as well.

I hope you enjoyed today´s post, pin it for later! Let me know if you have more tips for Byron Bay!
while, I know, but I kind of have an explanation for that. I moved like 800km
away from home and started with Uni which made up more of a challenge for me
then I thought. I love travelling and except for that one time, I am not a huge
homesickness person, but moving out is not travelling and homesickness hit me
hard combined with Uni stress and not knowing anyone, it didn´t make up for a
great combination, but really that is a story for another day.
whole reason for that trip was a concert in London. I know what you may think,
why do you travel to Paris in order to go to a concert in London, but to me it
made perfect sense. I really wanted to visit Paris and I wanted to take the
Eurostar for a long time, so perfect combination.

was by The Script and Ella Eyre. It was my second real concert and I probably
would have never thought about going to a concert from The Script if a friend of
mine wasn´t a fan. The only two songs I knew where Hall of Fame and
Superheroes, which I absolutely love, but honestly I didn´t even realize they
are from The Script, until she told me. Then she also showed me their new album
Freedom Child. From that point on, I listened to their songs everywhere. I
think they connect to the world how it is right now and there is a song for
almost every feeling on the album. Did you listen to it yet?

was at the O2 Arena and we were super lucky with our tickets. Our seats where
the first once after the stage and I can
tell you it wasn´t the worst view. Ella was already singing when we came. She
put the whole arena in a good mood while the excitement for the main act grew.
The Script started with a spectacular intro in the middle of the arena. The
whole show was pretty spectacular I thought, but not because of the special
effects or lighting more because of how they interacted with the crowd, with
their fans. They even went into the
crowd (like really into the crowd) to play some songs. It was amazing.

I know, I kind of tend to travel to more far away places , hahaha. I decided this year I am going to change that and booked myself a flight to Paris.
Luckily one of my friends joined in. I had not seen her for over half a year which made it extra special meeting her in Paris.

However the first problem we faced was finding each other in the city. My friend came by train and I took a flight. It took us a while to figure out where would be the best place to meet and to find each other. Finally our first stop was a restaurant with yummy crepes and outdoor heating, so we could enjoy our meal outside. It was lovely to just sit there and talk while soaking in the surroundings. Afterwards we walked down to the river Seine. On our way we passed cute shops. beautiful side streets and a bakery where I tried my first Eclair, delicious!! I absolutely fell in love with all the beautiful buildings and the charming atmosphere.

Whilst it got dark, it also got super cold, but we were determined to not let the weather stop us from exploring. Luckily we kept on walking and got to see the Eiffel Tower lit up and in the end we were happy that we didn´t take the metro to the Arc de Triomphe. In search of food we wondered down the Champs-Elysees and ended up in five guys, yes five guys. I know it can´t get any more "unparisian", but by the time we ate it was 10 pm and we just didn´t care to be honest.

The following morning we woke up to the most beautiful weather. No single cloud and loads of sunshine. We started the day with a visit to the Eiffel Tower by daylight. I believe first we both thought the tower would be even higher, but as we started to get closer we changed our minds. It was totally stunning to stand in front of Paris number one emblem.
Afterwards we went to the Galeries Lafayette to watch a Fashionshow which I thought was a super fun idea. It was a small show to present mainly clothes they were also selling in the Galeries, but I really enjoyed it and can only recommend it (well unless you absolutely don´t care about fashion maybe). If you are interested you can order your tickets online in advance. The price for one ticket is 12€. In case you don´t fancy going to a Fashionshow, the Galeries have an amazing terrace as well from where you have an incredible view over the city including the Eiffel Tower of course. We stood outside for what felt like hours enjoying the sun and the view with a cafe au lait.
You could even see Sacre Coeur from the Galeries, but by the time we left it was almost dinner time. We set of for a quick stop at the Louvre before heading to our chosen restaurant. The Louvre was beautiful around that time of the day, the sun has just started to go down.
We really wanted to try a Falafel for dinner then, but as we arrived at the restaurant the place was closed which resulted in us eating pizza on our last night in Paris. Oh well, I guess we have to come back.:)

I think everyone should visit Paris at least once in their life. It is a beautiful city and definitely worth a trip.

Hope you all have a great start of the week!!Chiara http://www.blogger.com/profile/06839936109157245769noreply@blogger.com6tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-358959629670979197.post-30797154597754280952018-02-15T18:18:00.001+01:002018-02-15T18:18:40.986+01:00In the middle of nowhereTo continue my ramblings about the time I spent in Australia I thought I share with you all my experience in the Outback, sleeping under the stars in the middle of nowhere whilst I am now sitting on my desk in snowy Austria.

The Outback Tour was one of those tours I hadn´t planned on doing before I came to Australia. My plan was Sydney and then up the East Coast, but I am glad it turned out this way. I think it is good to give yourself the freedom to plan your trip loosely and make the rest up as you go.
I booked flights from Sydney to Alice Springs and a three day tour including a visit to Uluru, Kata Tjuta and Kings Canyon just a few days in advance, as well as a night in Alice Springs before the tour because it started at around 5 am in the morning. Super early, I know...but let me tell you, the next two mornings started even earlier.
On the first day we made our way down to Uluru, also called Ayers Rock. Our guide told us about the aboriginal culture and we walked parts of the Base Walk around Uluru. It was very interesting and fun, but I honestly thought it would be even more impressive. Our guide also told us about loads of tourists climbing Ayers Rock which is absolutely forbidden in order to respect the local Aborigines. In my opinion respecting the "rules" from the locals, is the minim tourists should do.

Sadly the sunset was partially covered by clouds and as was the sunrise, but we still got up at 4am the next morning to be able to have breakfast in front of the Uluru while the sun rose.
Next on the agenda was Kata Tjuta and now that really impressed me. It looked like a landscape from a different world. Unbelievable! We walked thru the Nationalpark, took pictures and tried to soak in all the beauty of this place before driving the rest of the day. If you ever visit the Outback , be prepared for loads of driving. Remember it is in the middle of nowhere....
Both nights we slept outside in a swag which is like a huge sleeping bag. It was quiet an experience, but definitely a good one. It is a feeling of freedom to sleep under a sky full of stars and I really enjoyed it.

On the final day, we visited Kings Canyon. The walk around the Canyon took about 4 hours and it was as stunning as Kata Tjuta the day before, just a little bit more exhausting to walk up and down the Canyon.

Overall it was a very fun tour with some awesome people and a dinner night out in Alice Springs was the perfect ending to it. I can only recommend The Rock Tour.
Hope you all have a great weekend!!
watch the Greatest Showman in the cinema. I know what you may be thinking how
does that relate to the first part of the post or maybe you already have a clue
what I want to say here. First of all it is a great movie which is totally
worth the cinema ticket. ( I am very tempted to watch it a second time.;)) Moreover it is also one of those movies that make you think,
in this case about being different and how it makes people feel . How do people
feel when someone disrespects them for looking different or believing in
different things? Yea, not good. I think so too and then I (pictured the world
and) thought, how often does that happen? I leave it up to you to find an answer, but I
believe it is to often.
<span style="font-family: "calibri";">The Greatest Showman is partially based on true events.
Mr. Barnum started on of the first versions of what is our so called Circus today, but
in the movie he also creates a family for the actors which in reality didn´t happen and that is the important part here. Everyone needs a family, needs to be loved by
someone and needs to be treated with respect. For me that is the lesson the
movie teaches you, treat people with respect no matter what. What do you think
about it? Have you seen the movie yet?
My first stop
in Australia was Sydney and it blew my mind. Sydney is honestly the most
beautiful city I have been to so far (not including Queenstown, NZ). Combing
the beach lifestyle with a vibrant city life makes a very good combination. For
a few weeks I lived in the northern suburbs in a beautiful hilly area with
lot´s of green. It took me about 20 minutes into the city center. The CBD had
everything for shopaholics to Sushi lovers. You basically have one long street
where you can find all the shops and then you turn left and end at Circular
Quay with the world famous Opera House which looks even more stunning in real
life. Circular Quay is also where the public ferries leave. Besides train and
bus, ferries are a normal public transport in Sydney. (Just one more reason to
love it;))

My favorite
ferry ride was from Circular Quay to Manly passing the Opera House and enjoying
the sunshine on my face. Manly is part of the northern beaches and it is also

beaches before getting invited to a yummy dinner.

Most
memorable trip: I have to say my weekend trip to London was the most memorable
one this year. There are two, maybe three, reasons that made it so memorable.
First of all, the friend I went with…we became good friends in Australia when
we both stayed in Sydney for a while. I am very thankful to have met her there
and for being my travelbuddy again and again ;) Second reason, the concert we
went to. Now that story started in Australia as well. On my last night in Sydney
said friend told me Shawn Mendes is in town. We both weren´t extremely big fans
and didn´t have tickets to the concert of course, but when we got the chance to
“meet” Shawn out on the streets, we quickly turned into fangirls for the next
couple of days. Quiet some time later we decided, we had to go to a concert now
and instead of just going to the one near our hometowns, we decided it was more
fun to travel to one of the most exciting cities for it. (My friend and I are
both in love with London.) In addition to that or maybe the third reason, I had
never been to a proper concert in an arena before and I think London´s sold out
O2 Arena set a pretty good venue for my first big concert. It was simply an
amazing trip.

mistakes and to feel down sometimes. Even more important I understand how much
my friends and my family mean to me and that you should never take them for
granted.

When you
think of Australia your first thought is probably SYDNEY, one of the most
beautiful cities of the world and as sometimes mistaken not the capital of the
country. Thinking further Brisbane, Perth and Melbourne come to mind. Melbourne
was the second city I visit in Australia. It wasn´t really on my list at first
to be honest, but as often while travelling. my plan changed.

Thanks to
Facebook I met a lovely girl who planned a trip down the Great Ocean Road and
the city of Melbourne. Without thinking too much about it, I just booked the
same trip and we then met for the first time in a hostel in central Melbourne.
Unfortunately we didn´t get to share a hostelroom, but a lovely first-night-dinner at
Nando´s made up for it. I think after that evening we both already knew that we
would get along very well and after a few days it felt like we had been friends
for years. (She is coming to visit me in my hometown next weekend, yeah)

different beaches. The difference is that they are more European like then Sydney´s
dreamy surfing spots. On one sunny day we took a walk from Brighton Beach to
St.Kilda which I would highly recommend.
It was one of the most relaxed days. You can sit down in a nice café and just
keep walking for hours. Just don´t forget the sunscreen, trust me!

a sport city. We were told about various stadiums and events.

amazing months in Australia and New Zealand, we decided to stop in one more
city on our way home. Dubai!! I am telling you it was the best decision we
could make and I am looking forward to visit the UAE again. We had the best

touched down in Dubai, we were honestly pretty done after our 16 hours flight

was running around in flipflops anymore or
went in the supermarket with a bikini top and shorts on. (Not that we expected
to see that happening in Dubai) The next morning after loads of sleep we
started our 2,5 days Dubai adventure.

About the
dress code, we noticed that people may stare at you a bit when you wear shorts
and a top, but if you don´t mind, you can basically wear what you want (except if
you go in a mosque etc.of course). We always started the day with a good
breakfast at our hotel. Then the first day we went to the Waterpark, but we
might have been to the smaller one. It was a lot of fun anyway, so I didn´t
matter. Afterwards we took the bus to the famous Mall of the Emirates. Oh dear,
that was definitely one of my highlights. They have everything there, really
everything. It was like all my favorite stores and restaurants from around the
world combined in one big shopping paradise. The best thing Dubai has two of
these fun malls. We visited Dubai Mall later on the same day. The Dubai Mall is
attached to the world´s highest building the Burj Khalifa and also it is
surrounded by a nice outside area. To go up at the Burj Khalifa you can decide
if you want to go all the way to the top or just until a certain floor . We
didn´t go all the way up, just because it was quiet expensive and remember we
had been shopping right before;) The view was amazing:

dunes can certainly feel a like it. After seeing the sun go done behind all the

thing we did in Brighton, get coffee and DumDum Donuts (they are deeelicious;))
With our donuts we went down to the beach. I love beaches, there is something
very calming about them, don´t you think? The first time I came to Brighton I
literally fell asleep at the beach, that´s how relaxing it is,hahaha. Unlike
most beaches Brighton´s beach isn’t sandy which means you won´t have sand

always be my favorite place and I get the worst post-vacation-depression after

you as well.. I normally go skiing in Austria. I have been to France, Germany
and West Virginia, but in my opinion the Austrians do it the best. (I should
probably mention that I am a bit Austria obsessed at this point, just love it.)
Also my friend keeps telling me Italy is great for skiing too. When I was
younger I lived near the Austrian boarder for a few years when I fell in love
with the mountains and snow. There is something magical about going down the
slopes with the majestic Alps in front of you and the snow under your skis.

Certainly
skiing vacations are nothing for people who want to sleep till 10am and start
the day with a long brunch until noon. You want to make the most of the day
before the slopes are worn out. We always try to start the day quiet early
which can be tough after a party night, but it is definitely worth it. Trust me. Our day starts, of
course, with a good breakfast as you need enough energy to go skiing. Being at
the lift around 9/ 9:30 (depending on the night before) gives us lots of
time to enjoy the winter wonderland before heading for lunch. Skiing can be
quiet exhausting and for me a good lunch became an essential. My favorites are
Kaiserschmarrn, Wiener Schnitzel and Käs-Spätzle. After an hour break we hit the slopes again. In most skiing resorts the lifts close between 4 and 5pm.
Then it is up to you, some people like to just relax, get a massage or hoop
into the pool, but if you like me, than that´s where the party bit starts.
Apres Ski!! You can enjoy some drinks in a cozy Alm near a fireplace or like
most people drink a few beers and get dancing on the tables enjoying life to
the fullest, hahaha! It is the most fun when you travel with a group of
friends/ people. The past few years my friends and I always went with a group
of different people and oh dear it was the most fun times ever. (Missing it so
much writing this right now). After
Apres Ski we usually head back to the Hotel for dinner and get ready to keep
partying afterwards. Repeating that 7 days and nights in a row leaves you
pretty done at the end of your trip, but more important thankful for an amazing
time in the mountains with everything you could ask for.

<span lang="EN-US" style="font-family: "times new roman" , "serif"; line-height: 115%;">I told my friend
I want to do what is right for me and what makes me happy and then we started
thinking. Probably everyone wants to do what makes him or her happy, but how
many people really do that? It is hard. I think in today´s world we often
forget what´s the right thing to do for us rather than for someone else. People
want to impress, people want to look good when everyone is watching, people are
forced to live a fast-paced life… Sometimes it can feel
like society wants you to be a certain type of person so you fit in the system.
Other people form people and without knowing they partially decide who we are.

When I talked to my friends about it we came up with the conclution that "over-thinking" is a "girls-problem". Now I don´t know if it is only a girls problem or if guys do it too, but I am pretty sure most girls can relate to it. But why, why do we worry so much about little things which are so unimportant if you see the whole? Nothing is ever gonna be perfect that is just life, but if we do the best we can we don´t have to worry about perfect. We shouldn´t aim to be perfect because we are not made to be perfect. We are human.

Since I moved to London I realized I am stressing myself out about little things because I want to make it good like almost perfect. I know that it doesn´t have to be like that, but I want to do a good job . I start thinking to much about what could go wrong and stress out.
So this weekend I went into Kikki.K at some point and saw all those beautiful notebooks and diaries with inspiring quotes. I said to myself, they are right, just do the best you can and it is gonna be alright. It is definitely easier said then done, but it is so true. Sometimes things happen and you can´t change it. Then it is important to get back up again, learn from it and remind yourself, there is no such thing as perfection in everything.
I decided to open up this new category for my London adventures. Yes, I moved to London and so far I am loving it. Like the days right before a big trip the first days in a new country are busy too. Everything is super exciting, new people, foreign language, different food... the list goes on and on. You know what I mean.

After a 3 hours delay I finally arrived at my "new home" for the next few months. The family I am staying with is super lovely, you feel very welcome. The first days were all about getting to know each other and working out where things are. I am slowly getting the hang of it,but it is just been a little over a week, so I try not to be to hard on myself if things don't exactly work out the way I want to. It is ok I will learn it like driving on the left side of the road which is bizarre for me coming from the continent.

On the weekend I ,of course, went into London to enjoy the city life, try some of the "different " food and take a stroll down Oxford Street.
Cheers to loads of shopping trips to come!!

I am talking about this nervous excitement. Whenever I go abroad for at least a few months I get super excited for it and start thinking about all the things to do and the people I will meet which makes me even more excited. Can anyone refer to this feeling? Well maybe you know the "nervous excitement" too. Days and weeks pass by until you suddenly realize ´I am leaving in like 5 days, what?´ That´s the time where I usually start to get a bit nervous. Not like a bad nervous more like I will get everything done before I leave nervous.

Right now I am getting ready to leave for the UK next week. Don´t get me wrong I am super excited for the next months and on one side I can´t wait to finally meet my new host family, but on the other side I am thinking where did the time go. Do I have enough time to meet all my friends again before I leave, pack my suitcase, work on university applications, spend time with my family... I know what you might be thinking, why don´t I plan ahead ? Trust me I do..well I try at least, but it doesn´t help. Like I don´t want to meet my friends a week before I leave and I can´t pack my suitcase days in advance, because I usually still need my clothes...result the days before a big trip are always busy which I think is kind of part of the trip already, but still if you have any tips on how to make it less busy, let me know in the comments below!!

Personally I don´t know what I would do without it. It puts me in a better mood when I get ready in the morning still half asleep
(Isn´t it so hard to get up sometimes?) or helps me relax after a stressful day. Music has a lot of power and can reach a lot of people, it connects people in a special way. Probably everyone who has been to any kind of concert can agree with this. Music unites people. Even though, when you are standing in a stadium full of people or maybe just a small theater, everyone is different, but united in the love for the music.

The same often goes for sport events. Especially "Charity Runs" and "Charity Concerts" show the overwhelming power of sport and music. I think they are just awesome and there should be more of them all around the world. Earlier I watched parts of Martin Garrix show at Tomorrowland this year and saw someone holding a flag/banner in the camera saying " Music will save the World". It made me smile and I started thinking about it. Music can certainly be a help. What do you think?

It is truly sad to see how concerts become something people are afraid to go to because of several brutal acts of terrorism. What happened in France and England is horrible.
But if we would all stop going out to concerts, soccer games...things that can have such a positive impact and bring us closer together, then we would let terrorism win. Don´t think about what could potentially happen, rather come up with ideas how you can make tis world a safer place again.

I know it´s easier said than done, but give it a try.
In one way I think that´s great, because it keeps them special. Nevertheless I still miss those travel activities every now and then at home.

During my time in Australia I started to learn how to surf (well let´s say I tried) and I had so much fun. It just made me happy. I did it a few times while travelling up the East Coast and during vacation in Indonesia.

When travelling with my friends we often turn into foodies and sometimes we could go out to eat three or four times a day. I really enjoy sitting down in a cafe for morning or afternoon tea and take in all the different surroundings. Something I hardly ever do at home.

The next "activity" I got pretty used to in Australia or whenever there is a beach and some sunshine nearby...sleeping on the beach during the day. It is honestly the most relaxing thing you can do. BUT I am not always lazy during my tavels. In Austria and basically every country around the alps. I love to stay active and do different outdoor activities like hiking or riding. The nature there is unbelievable beautiful.

Well, Let´s face it, there are no mountains and no beaches around where I live, so they are gonna stay my "travel activities".

Do you have any activities you only do while travelling?

Hope you are all having a fabulous week!!Chiara http://www.blogger.com/profile/06839936109157245769noreply@blogger.com0
